PICKING MY BLUES AWAY

… is a collection of guitar instrumentals written between 1974 and 2010.
Many of them I played in concerts throughout the years and many I taught to my guitar students.

There are six ragtimes in this collection and a “Woody Woodpecker Blues“ which was recorded on my first LP (Live in Atlantis ) in 1976. I once played it to Davey Graham who gave me some good tips for my compositions.

I have chosen a collection of time signatures 4/4, 3/4, 6/8 and 7/8. The 6/8 “Thingamajig“ has an Irish, classical touch and the 7/8 “Sky Train“ evolved while playing with the group “Turnalar“, which specialized in Turkish music. “With Just A Little Bit Of Gladness“ was recorded for a CD (Facts About Gats) in 2004 for ATTAC Austria and has decidedly rhythmical elements for the right hand. I wrote “Robin’s Tune“, a ragtime of sorts, for my son Robin when he was 6 months old.

The book “Picking My Blues Away“ consists of two parts, the first with music and the second with tablature with the usual guitar fingering for the right and left hand.

So these compositions have accompanied me for a long, long time.
I hope some of them will become a part of your repertoire as well.
